Retrofit is key to our sustainable future

We’re extremely excited to receive planning permission on the retrofit of these semi-detached Victorian villas, which currently house dilapidated bedsits in Bude, into eight energy-efficient apartments for our client, bunnyhomes.

A few facts about the embodied carbon in existing buildings…

1. Did you know that a typical semi-detached three bedroom home has 34.6 tonnes CO2 of embodied carbon?

2. That’s the equivalent of driving 80,000 miles in a typical petrol car, or driving 3 laps of the earth.

3. This equates to approximately 405 kg CO2 per m2 of useable floor area.

This project has 550m2 of floor area which equates to utilising 220 tonnes of CO2, or 10 laps of the world in a car! This fabric first approach will greatly benefit the ongoing operational carbon reduction in use.
