The house is modern and modest in its appearance as you approach the new dwelling; a playful mass of monochrome slate and render single storey volumes. Nestled into the hillside, this house cascades away into a lofty two-story family home facing out to the south.

A double height atrium with a soft floating timber stair connects the four quarters of the house. Designed as a take on the upside-down house the plan is curated in to two distinct sides; for living and sleeping. At the entrance level an open plan living space is subdivided by a monolithic slate fire place and opens up on to the south facing terrace. This terrace connects to the western side of the entrance level where the spaces are more intimate housing the master bedroom, snug and home office.

At the garden level, 4 en-suite bedrooms are situated below the master bedroom to complete the sleeping side of the property. Below the open plan living space is a swimming pool with framed views and large opening bi-fold doors that connect the inside pool with the landscape and nature.

As a home for life, the design provides flexibility in how the family can use the spaces. A lift connects all the floors, and the entrance level alone provides fully accessible level living.

Tectonics
The architectural language is clear and consistent inside and out, using slate as a reference to the Cornish vernacular alongside a white render to add light and depth to the massing. Openings have been carefully curated to frame views and provide connectivity through a mix of large openings, slot windows and punched apertures.

The new home is highly insulated and integrates a PV array to provide renewable energy to power the building.
